Very fine, early, variable stars signed friendship quilt: Circa 1840; New Jersey Each of the blocks of this Variable Stars quilt is stamped with an inked signature. The quilt is a wonderful library of printed red fabrics from the 1830's and 40's. It is lightly quilted with a cable-like pattern. The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. There is one lightly smudged area but not not sufficiently distracting to necessitate a wash for most people who would appreciate the history of this quilt. The quilt is from New Jersey; circa 1840. The most frequently seen surnames on the quilt are Hoffman; Moser; Rhoads; Kline; Bower and Harper. Each name is inked within a quilted star. Measurements are 86 inches square. There are remnants of a paper label sewn to the quilt that are difficult to decipher. In addition is a note that says "Mrs Sallie Lazenecker presented this quilt to Amelia Stonehouse". A researcher can have a field day tracking down the men and women whose names are on the quilt. US shipping $35 Courtesy of Stella Rubin StellaRubin.com
