Fine and rare mahogany Frisbee Family 5 part Federal breakfront bookcase. Boston, circa 1800. Original condition. H 95" W 71". See next lot for Frisbee Family Portrait. Breakfront bookcases, scarce in America, are even less common in New England. In 5 parts , the blocked molded cornice above 3 glazed conforming bookcase units upon a long case of paneled cupboard doors with a fitted secretary drawer. The central bookcase contains a removable satinwood arcade & letter drawer interior. Mahogany, mahogany veneer with tulip poplar & white pine secondary woods. In original estate condition, the bookcase has sustained no repairs, retaining all of the removable shelving and most of the original glazing. While essentially Georgian in design, Robert Mussey refers to this brief era, 1805- 1818 as Boston Regency. By direct descent from the Frisbie family, (Branford, Ct. 1644), et al.
