Commanding gentleman White cloth doll, both in size and design, wearing yellow breeches, white shirt, vest, great frock coat, patterned stockings and shoes. His hands are prominent and have separated fingers. His amazing face is his tour de force, with a huge protruding nose, stitched eyes and eyelashes with patterned buttons for the eyeballs, and red applied lips revealing a few teeth. His body is accented with an allied cushion to suggest girth, which was a sign of wealth, status and well-being in the Victorian period. True folk art. American, 2nd quarter 19th century. H 24".
