Pair of cast aluminum architectural modular panels by architect and designer John de Koven Hill (American, 1920-1996). Hill started his career as an apprentice at Talliesin for Frank Lloyd Wright, eventually becoming Wright's chief architect and right-hand man. In his own work, Hill promoted the cause of modern architecture within Wright's organic approach, which is apparent in his design for these fencing panels. Although the product of mid-century modern design, the decorative panels reflect not only the Prairie School motifs found in Wright's early 20th-century work, but also the artistic sensibility of Wright's teacher, Chicago architect Louis Sullivan. Hill designed these modular panels for decorative fencing within an urban renewal residential project in Hyde Park, Chicago. The panels were manufactured by Schmidt Ornamental Iron Works of Evanston, IL. These were salvaged when the fencing was taken down in 2013. Condition: Authentic weathered patina. The fencing had deteriorated by the time it was taken down, which is reflected in the broken corners on the panels. Measurements 17.75" square.
