Judy Moonelis studio sculpture. Depicts a large head with flamboyant hair. Throughout the hair and in various crevices are found heads, partially exposed or completely hidden.

H 32 in. W 25 in. D 18 in. 

Condition: Very Good condition, with some small chips to plaster extremities (some included for restoration), and one earring is off but included as well.  General light soiling and wear.

Born in Jackson Heights, Queens, Moonelis earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree cum laude at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in 1975; she received a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 1978, in which year she received the Menno Alexander Reeb Memorial Award for sculpture from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. In 1980 she received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. She has had a studio in Manhattan, and taught ceramics at New York University in addition to serving at guest artist or visiting artist at numerous organizations. Moonelis produces largely figural work, including a series derived from the masks used in Ancient Greek theatre. Two of her works are in the collection of the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution. Wikipedia.

New England Auctions does not ship or arrange shipping. 
All shipping is outsourced. All buyers and shippers must come prepared with appropriate packing materials and help for heavy items.  Our staff will not be available to help move heavy items. If payment is made by check, items will be held 7 business days before an item is released for shipping.   
Items can be picked up in person or by a shipper at 14 Business Park Drive - Unit 5, Branford, CT - BY CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please contact the gallery 24 hours in advance to make an appointment. Pickup can be scheduled for Monday through Friday between 9am - 3pm beginning the Monday after the date of the auction. Please note that all first-time buyers that wish to pick items up in person must pay with cash.

All purchases must be picked up from our location within 14 days, no exceptions. Purchased items that have been paid for but not picked up or shipped from our auction facility within 14 days of the auction will be stored at a rate of $10 per day per lot for furniture and larger items and $5 per day per lot for smaller items. A moving fee of $25 going into storage and $25 going out of storage will be added. Storage fees and late fees must be paid before items are released. There are no exceptions.

 


Items not picked up within 60 days of the auction date will be considered in default and become the property of New England Auctions.
