Group of fifteen Civil War and historical American books as follows: Frank Leslie's Illustration. The Soldier in Our Civil War: Columbian Memorial Edition.  Two Volumes. New York and Atlanta, GA. Stanley Bradley Publishing Company. 1893. Sold Only By Subscription. 474 and 444 pp. Double frontispieces to each volume, and numerous full and partial page illustrations and maps, some folding. Appears complete and mostly undisturbed. Contents generally clean with light foxing at beginning and end. Covers are gilt and embossed cloth with some fading and staining, but would clean up nicely. Hinges are a little weak, as is usually the case with these very heavy text blocks, but so far no rips or separations. Generally a fine set. Also includes Frank Leslie's Illustrated Famous Leaders and Battle Scenes of the Civil War...Mrs. Frank Leslie, Publisher. New York. [1896]. 544 pp. Same size and format as the previous title, and perhaps a lot of the same illustrations. This copy is only in fair condition. The text block is complete (p 355 has a 3" tear with loss to the margin). The covers are heavily damp stained is discolored, fraying to the edges, corners bumped and with loss of cloth, spine tips worn, etc.

Eight volumes all related to the battles and people of the Civil War. To include: J.G. Holland. The Life of Abraham Lincoln. Springfield, Mass. Gurdon Bill. 1866. Engraved frontis of Lincoln, and all others called for in the text. First Edition, with 2 page catalog at end. Brown cloth, with some light edge wear and soiling, rear hinge starting at top. A very good copy.    Henry F.W. Little. The Seventh Regiment New Hampshire Volunteers in the War of the Rebellion.1861-1865. Concord, N.H. Ira C. Evans, Printer. 1896. 567 pp and 131 pp (Roster and Index). The definitive history of the regiment. Well illustrated. At least two folding maps. Contents are in excellent condition. Cloth cover, with some stains to the back cover, otherwise only light wear. Concord bookbinder's label affixed to inside front past down.    Upton, Emory. Infantry Tactics Double and Single Rank. Adapted to American Topography and Improved Fire-Arms. Revised Edition. New York: D. Appleton and Company 1891. 446 pp, Small soft bound blue leather covered book with remnants of a brass clasp (back strap lacking). Wear and tear commensurate with age and use. Slight tear to back cover and some internal pages.    Coffin, Charles Carleton. The Boys of '61; or, Four Years of Fighting...Boston: Estes and Lauriat. 1884. 558 pp. Blue cloth cover, gilt decorated and embossed. Moderate wear to cloth, inner hinges cracked. A nice copy.    Battles and Leaders of the Civil War...The Century Company..1887. Four Volumes. 8 vo. 3/4 black leather with cloth boards. Contents fine. Covers with normal wear. Wear and rubbing to edges, light soiling or dust. Volume 1 front hinge is split at the top, and all spines are dry, with some cracking evident. Time for a light touch of neatsfoot oil. 

The Memorial History of Boston. Edited by Justin Winsor. Boston: Ticknor & Co. 1880-81. In Four Volumes. Quarto. First edition. Bound in 3/4 sheep over marbled boards, marbled end papers, and marbled edges. In very good condition, with scuffing, edge wear, Vol. 3 one spine label with two chips. Vol.4 the front hinge with split at top and bottom.  Contents clean with light age toning. In it's day, a monumental work.

All shipping is outsourced. All buyers and shippers must come prepared with appropriate packing materials and help for heavy items.  Our staff will not be available to help move heavy items. If payment is made by check, items will be held 7 business days before an item is released for shipping.   
Items can be picked up in person or by a shipper at 14 Business Park Drive - Unit 5, Branford, CT - BY CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please contact the gallery 24 hours in advance to make an appointment. Pickup can be scheduled for Monday through Friday between 9am - 3pm beginning the Monday after the date of the auction. Please note that all first-time buyers that wish to pick items up in person must pay with cash.

All purchases must be picked up from our location within 14 days, no exceptions. Purchased items that have been paid for but not picked up or shipped from our auction facility within 14 days of the auction will be stored at a rate of $10 per day per lot for furniture and larger items and $5 per day per lot for smaller items. A moving fee of $25 going into storage and $25 going out of storage will be added. Storage fees and late fees must be paid before items are released. There are no exceptions.

 


Items not picked up within 60 days of the auction date will be considered in default and become the property of New England Auctions.
