A collection of autographs of European authors and one Hungarian composer. 1) Marcel Proust. (1871-1922) French novelist. Autograph letter in French to an author friend. With black border. Focus on non-esthetic countries and their ignorance or their greed. "A dead land where art no longer lives..." With full translation. 2) Thomas Mann (1875-1955) German novelist, social critic. Nobel Prize 1929. Signed on recto of title page to his Gesammelte Werke, Berlin, 1922. Also, a 1 pp typed letter in German, signed in ink. Dated September 3, 1950, on his letterhead from Pacific Palisades, California. The letter is to Mr. Waldimir G. Eliasberg, M.D. Untranslated. 3) Emil Zola (1840-1902) French novelist. Small, 1 pp autograph letter in French, dated April 20, 1879, to an unnamed woman. An invitation to dine next Thursday..children welcome..friends as well. 4) Alain Robbe-Grillet (1922-2008) French writer and film maker. One autograph letter signed "Robbe-G" and dated 20 January, 1959. Not translated. 2 carbon copies of letters to him from Pamela Lyon of the International Literary Annual. (1958) No signatures. 2 carbon copies of letters from him to Ms. Lyon regarding edits to an article. (1958) Both are signed by Robbe-G or Robbe-Grillet.. H 11" W 8-1/2" . Condition: All are very good with expected folds,creases, light soiling. 5) Arthur Nikisch (1855-1922) Hungarian conductor. Carte de Visite, inscribed and signed in ink. Card H 5-1/2" W 4".
