Sixteen mostly autograph letters, signed by noted British authors of the 19th and 20th centuries. 1) Henry James (1843-1916) ALS to artist Herbert Gilchrist, dated May 2, 1912. 2) P. G. Wodehouse (1881-1975) A 7pp typed letter or article signed with fine full signature. Titled: My Methods, Such As They Are. 3) Evelyn Waugh (1903-1966) 1pp autograph letter signed with full signature and dated September 18th [1957] on Combe Florey House stationary. 4) Edmund Gosse (1849-1928) Poet. ALS 4pp signed with bold signature and dated May 22, 1884. To Mr. Sherwood. 5) Brendan Behan (1923-1964) Noted Irish Poet, Novelist, Activist. A small, 1pp typed letter signed in ink and dated May 18th,1959. 6) Lord Alfred Douglas (1870-1945) Poet, Journalist. Had an affair with Oscar Wilde. To include three autograph letters signed to Sam Steward at Ohio State University and dated Jan/Feb 1934. All three are complete with envelopes. 4) H.M. Tomlinson (1873-1958) Small 2pp ALS to Mr. Hayden Church. dated Dec. 5, 1930. Full signature. 5) George Meredith (1828-1909) Novelist. 1 pp small ALS to "My dear Crawford", and dated Box Hill July 15th, 1887. 6) Matthew Arnold (1822-1888) Poet. Small 1pp autograph letter, signed and dated January 15, 1870. To William Tallack. Full signature. 7) Giles Lytton Strachey (1880-1932) Writer/Critic. Small 1pp autograph letter signed and dated October 10th, 1931. On Ham Spray House stationary. 8) Anthony H. Hawkins (1863-1933) Novelist/Playwright. Small 1pp autograph letter signed and dated October 25, 1931 to "My dear Hine". On Heath Farm stationary. 9) Lawrence Binyon (1869-1943) Poet/Orientalist. Two small autograph letters signed. Both on British Museum stationary. One to Mr. Plarr dated July 27, and one to My dear Bullen, dated January 26, 1916. 10) Arnold Bennett (1867-1931) Novelist. A small card with a short note (unintelligible) dated May 22, 1914. Removed from an album.
