Last Will & Testament of Thomas Jansen of Shawangunk, Ulster County, New York. Dated April 20, 1792. approx. on a single sheet opened flat and protected in a heavy plastic folder. Jansen bequeathed to his daughter Esther, "...a Negroe Girl now living with her Lilly, together with all the Children begot by the Wench Izabel deceas'd..." To his daughter Rachel he bequeathed "...my Negro Wench named Janna now living with the said Isaac Freer". And finally to his son Cornelius he bequeathed "the two Negro Girls named Peg and Rose, and the Negro boy named Frank at present living with him." The signature of Jansen has been torn out, probably by a descendant. The document has been signed by Jacob Smedes, John R(B?)adeher, and Johs. Bruyn as witnesses. The document is not docketed. Sheet size: H 14" W 16-1/2". Document size: H 12-3/4" W 15-3/4". Condition: Jansen's signature torn out, otherwise fold marks present with some soiling, slight age darkening, and minor creases.
