One page partially printed manuscript document where David Olmstead and Timothy Keeler, Jr. bind themselves to the Governor and Company of the State of Connecticut "in the Penal Sum of One Thousand Pounds...this 16th Day of May A.D. 1778...That whereas the above named David is appointed Captain & Paymaster of a Company in Col. John Mead's Regiment now raising for Service of this State... " The document is signed by Olmstead and Keeler, and witnessed by Increase Moseley, Jr. and Oliver Ellsworth. Ellsworth was one of the Framers of the US Constitution, A US Senator, and the Third Chief Justice of the US, appointed by George Washington. Wax seals of Olmstead ands Keeler are present. H 13-1/2" W 8-1/4". Condition: Usual minor age darkening, slight chipping and small 2" split at upper fold to left margin. Unframed, but would frame brilliantly. A fine and unique document of the early years of the War, signed by at least three important CT leaders of the day.
