Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832). Set of six volumes in Mauchline tartan ware box. Each book with lacquered cover in varying named tartan patterns. Gilt blue morocco spines. All edges gilt. Books are dated 1869–70. Includes: Bridal of Triermain, Lady of the Lake, Lay of Last Minstrel, Lord of the Isles, Marmion, and Rokeby. Box is decorated with the Stuart tartan (Prince Charlie), and there is a vignette of the Palace of Holyrood on top. The box is lined with blue velvet, and with a slot to each book. Select Edition. Edinburgh: Adam and Charles Black. ca. 1871. 16 mo.
Box: H 4-1/8" L 7-5/8" W 6-5/8".
Each book: H 5-1/2" L 3-3/4" W 3/4".
Condition: Books in excellent condition. Only faint wear from being removed from box. Box is also excellent, with some discoloration, some age cracks to edges and "crackling" to lid vignette. A very fine and scarce set,

All shipping is outsourced. All buyers and shippers must come prepared with appropriate packing materials and help for heavy items. Our staff will not be available to help move heavy items. If payment is made by check, items will be held 7 business days before an item is released for shipping.
Items can be picked up in person or by a shipper at 14 Business Park Drive - Unit 5, Branford, CT - BY CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please contact the gallery 24 hours in advance to make an appointment. Pickup can be scheduled for Monday through Friday between 9am - 3pm beginning the Monday after the date of the auction. Please note that all first-time buyers that wish to pick items up in person must pay with cash.

Purchased items that have been paid for but not picked up or shipped from our auction facility within 21 days of the auction will be stored at a rate of $10 per day per lot for furniture and larger items and $5 per day per lot for smaller items. A moving fee of $25 going into storage and $25 going out of storage will be added. Storage fees and late fees must be paid before items are released. There are no exceptions.
Items not picked up within 60 days of the auction date will be considered in default and become the property of New England Auctions.
