This is the second printing of the first Shaker hymnal and the first book printed by the Shakers. The first printing of 1812 is very scarce. Printed at the Hancock, Massachusetts community and published for circulation and use of the Shakers exclusively. Many of the hymns were from the Ohio and Kentucky Shaker communities and all were approved by the
Ministry and Elders of the Shaker Church.

Provenance: From the collection of the late J. J. G. McCue of Lexington, Mass. and acquired by him directly from the Canterbury, New Hampshire Shakers during the 1950s.

H 6-7/8 in. W 4-1/4 in. D 1-1/8 in.

Condition: Original full sheep binding in very good condition. Contents toned, browned but otherwise very good. A choice example. Collates complete. Richmond Shaker Literature 1416. Sabin 79719.

All shipping is outsourced. All buyers and shippers must come prepared with appropriate packing materials and help for heavy items.  Our staff will not be available to help move heavy items. If payment is made by check, items will be held 7 business days before an item is released for shipping.   
Items can be picked up in person or by a shipper at 14 Business Park Drive - Unit 5, Branford, CT - BY CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please contact the gallery 24 hours in advance to make an appointment. Pickup can be scheduled for Monday through Friday between 9am - 3pm beginning the Monday after the date of the auction. Please note that all first-time buyers that wish to pick items up in person must pay with cash.

All purchases must be picked up from our location within 14 days, no exceptions. Purchased items that have been paid for but not picked up or shipped from our auction facility within 14 days of the auction will be stored at a rate of $10 per day per lot for furniture and larger items and $5 per day per lot for smaller items. A moving fee of $25 going into storage and $25 going out of storage will be added. Storage fees and late fees must be paid before items are released. There are no exceptions.

 


Items not picked up within 60 days of the auction date will be considered in default and become the property of New England Auctions.
