Civil War dental chest set of drawers with tambour closure. Plaque on top marked 'Rowse R. Clarke, Surgeon, 34th Infantry Regiment, Mass. Vols'. H 12" W 13" D 8-7/8". Born February 12, 1822, in South Kingston R.I., Rowse Reynolds Clarke graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1847. He went on to serve in the Civil War as Surgeon (later Surgeon-in-Chief) of the 34th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteers. He was later elected Massachusetts State Representative (R) from the 10th Worcester District shortly before his death. Clarke was a fellow of the Massachusetts Medical Society. He and his second wife Mary Sheldon lived in Whitinsville, MA. He died on February 4, 1888.
