Goddard Townsend Rhode Island Period Swing Leg Drop Leaf Table. Mahogany with white oak and chestnut secondary woods,featuring dovetailed cross bracing of the skirt, a feature almost exclusively associated with John Townsend's table construction. Other than John Goddard, who used a similar but different style of cross bracing, no other known RI craftsmen used structural cross bracing. Circa 1800.H 28-5/8", W 48-1/8", D closed 17-1/4", D opened 40-1/4". Excellent untouched condition. No restoration noted.
