Miniature portrait of noted ballet dancer Fanny Eisler (1810-1884). Signed LR, R. Meyerhofer. Austria, circa 1845. Fanny Elsler came from a family that was closely connected to Joseph Haydn. Her grandfather Joseph Elsler (  1782) and her father Johann (Florian) Elsler (1769Ð1843) were the composer's personal copyists. Her father looked after Haydn for around twenty years. He also worked as a valet until his death (1809). Fanny's mother Therese, nŽe Prinster, was a flour cutter. Fanny's sister Therese (1808Ð1878), who married Prince Adalbert of Prussia in a morganatic marriage in 1850, was also a dancer and often accompanied her on her tours. The eldest sister Anna (1804Ð1863) was an actress at the KŠrntnertor Theater. [2] She also had two brothers, of whom Johann Elsler was choir director at the Berlin Opera, while Joseph lived as a monk in a Franciscan monastery. Condition: Excellent condition. H 4-1/2" W 3-3/8".
