A large lot of Civil War and Civil War era ephemera to include: A mounted photo on board by R. Newell & Son of "Gen. Henry J. Hunt. Chief of Artillery, and Staff." H 6-1/2" W 8-1/2". May be a photo of a painting. Two oblong Poll-Books. One for October Election and one for November Election. Circa 1864. The October volume is for the soldiers of Co. H 9th Cavalry, PA vols. at Whiteside, Tenn. The November volume is for the soldiers of Co. C 21st Reg. Vols. near Petersburg VA. H 12-1/4" W 16-3/4". Volumes are tender, with covers separated from bindings, but complete. Three pieces of sheet music relating to slavery and the War. "God Bless Robert E. Lee" Song by W.S. Hays. 10 pp with wonderful lithograph of Lee on the cover. "The Captive's Lament". Massachusetts Female Emancipation Society. Music by Fessenden. Published by O. Ditson. 6pp Great lithographed front cover. "Come In Out of the Draft, Or, The Disconsolate Conscript. Comic Song". Words by Rossiter. Music by Walters. Phila. Lee and Walker. 1863. 6pp. Confederate States of America. LOAN. No. 8320. $1000.00. A bearer bond with attached coupons, lacking one clipped coupon. Indecipherable stamp on verso.  Engraved Recto with vignette of Lieut. Gen. Stonewall Jackson, and another of a steamboat with a train behind. H 14" W 14". Two pp from a ledger recording the amount collected by Wm Harshe for the year ending June 11,1861.On the flip side is the same info collected by C. A. Johnson for the same date. Eight pages from a ledger mostly recording vaccinations in early 1864, but the first page records a march from Va.to Miss. (?) June 23, 1863 -June 29, 1863.  H 11-1/2" W 5-1/4". A Dental Bill from H.N. Stratton of Brooklyn to Capt. Gesety (?) for work done in 1862-1863. Engraved bill head in red ink. A small archive of letters, essays by or to Dr. C.M. Martin of Michigan. Spans the years 1860-1865. Includes two essays and one letter written while at Lansing Agricultural College, and  four letters he received 1864-1885. One letter is from a soldier friend during the war (1864). Two are dated 1885. Two letters from R.L. Davis to his family written as a Prisoner of War at Roper Hospital, Charleston, SC. August and Sept. 1864. American Druggists' Circular and Chemical Gazette. Six whole numbers and 2 Supplements. 1860, 1861, 1866. Wonderful engravings throughout (quack medicine, soda fountains, etc.). 

Condition: Wear and faults as described.  Mostly good condition with expected wear.

All shipping is outsourced. All buyers and shippers must come prepared with appropriate packing materials and help for heavy items.  Our staff will not be available to help move heavy items. If payment is made by check, items will be held 7 business days before an item is released for shipping.   
Items can be picked up in person or by a shipper at 14 Business Park Drive - Unit 5, Branford, CT - BY CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please contact the gallery 24 hours in advance to make an appointment. Pickup can be scheduled for Monday through Friday between 9am - 3pm beginning the Monday after the date of the auction. Please note that all first-time buyers that wish to pick items up in person must pay with cash.

All purchases must be picked up from our location within 14 days, no exceptions. Purchased items that have been paid for but not picked up or shipped from our auction facility within 14 days of the auction will be stored at a rate of $10 per day per lot for furniture and larger items and $5 per day per lot for smaller items. A moving fee of $25 going into storage and $25 going out of storage will be added. Storage fees and late fees must be paid before items are released. There are no exceptions.

 


Items not picked up within 60 days of the auction date will be considered in default and become the property of New England Auctions.
