A large archive of WWII material (hundreds of pages), much relating to Japan and the Pacific Theatre. Includes a silk Rising Sun Flag (H 28" W 32") with numerous block stamps and handwritten lettering. A silk map of the West Pacific (H 27" W 36") printed in Washington, DC. A block print of an Asian man holding a fan in a field (caricature) with the title Chinaman's Party (H 28" W 29"). Also, typed correspondences, one Top Secret 7th Infantry Division ICEBERG Field Order 30. Material related to the USS Tyrrell. Many maps including Hawaii 1944. Information on how to ID planes and ships by silhouette and a Look-Out Manual. Japanese money (6 Yen bills, 1 in Centavos). One Japanese armband from a uniform, with a brass disc riveted to it, with Japanese letters. 3 Japanese color cards (H 1-1/2" W 2-5/8") of cartoon war scenes . 3 small wooden "tags" with a hole drilled at the top and with Japanese writing on both sides (largest is H 1" W 2 1/2"). Marshall Island Newspapers. 6 folders containing real time reports about the operations of the Battle of Okinawa (Top Secret). 2 large folded navigational charts of the Pacific Ocean. Book: USA at War. US Camera Annual 1944. First Edition with the dust jacket. Approximately 2 dozen magazines to include A Hawaiian printing of Time Magazine (Pacific Edition May 7, 1945) with the face of Hitler on the cover with a big red X over his face. Yank Far East, Life, mini Time magazines for soldiers, Recognition Magazines for Look out information, Several Harvard Bulletin and Periscope magazines. Some photographs taken at Harvard University during the war years (1942) include images of Churchill.

Condition: Most material is in excellent used condition. Occasional tears to documents, smudges, etc. from field use. Japanese flag with some small holes (but overall very impressive). A remarkable collection.

All shipping is outsourced. All buyers and shippers must come prepared with appropriate packing materials and help for heavy items.  Our staff will not be available to help move heavy items. If payment is made by check, items will be held 7 business days before an item is released for shipping.   
Items can be picked up in person or by a shipper at 14 Business Park Drive - Unit 5, Branford, CT - BY CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please contact the gallery 24 hours in advance to make an appointment. Pickup can be scheduled for Monday through Friday between 9am - 3pm beginning the Monday after the date of the auction. Please note that all first-time buyers that wish to pick items up in person must pay with cash.

All purchases must be picked up from our location within 14 days, no exceptions. Purchased items that have been paid for but not picked up or shipped from our auction facility within 14 days of the auction will be stored at a rate of $10 per day per lot for furniture and larger items and $5 per day per lot for smaller items. A moving fee of $25 going into storage and $25 going out of storage will be added. Storage fees and late fees must be paid before items are released. There are no exceptions.

 


Items not picked up within 60 days of the auction date will be considered in default and become the property of New England Auctions.
