Anderson, James (1678-1739). The History & Constitutions of the Most Antient & Honourable Fraternity of Freemasons. A foundational work on the history and rules of the Masonic Order.  This copy is incomplete, lacking Title page and preliminaries up to signature B, and all after page 322 (sig Tt). The first edition came out in 1723. This appears to be an edition of ca. 1756 based on evidence in the text. Other editions call for two plates which are not in this copy. Probably in the original 18th century calf binding, with raised bands, front cover is detatched, rear cover with split hinge, cords mostly broken, holding by one cord. Scarce in any condition.

Also in this lot are two small Bibles. One is a 1791 Edinburgh imprint, lacking all before Genesis Chapter 7 and all after Revelation Chapter 18. Binding is quite worn with loss to spine and boards. About good. The other Bible is from 1859 New York American Bible Society. It is complete, lacking only the front free end paper. Small 18mo (H 6").

Anderson Book: H 9" W 7" (small 4to).

Condition: As stated above, Anderson book with pages soiled and stained, leather missing and lifting from covers, see pics.
