Four Bibles with connections to Manchester/Stoddard New Hampshire. 1848-1880.  Includes The New Testament...New York. 1848. Inscribed Clara E. Upton, Stoddard NH. Small 12mo (H 4-1/2" W 3"). Leather bound.   The Holy Bible...Cambridge (England) 1859. Contains genealogical information for the Buck family in England and Manchester, NH. 8vo (H 10" W 7"). Leather bound, with embossed covers.   The Holy Bible...New York. 1873. 18mo (H 6" W 4-1/4") Full brown/red pebbled leather with brass clasp intact. All edges gilt. Gilt spine panels and boards. Name stamped in gilt on front cover "Lillian, From Grandma Gates."    The Holy Bible. Holman's Edition. Philadelphia: A.J. Holman & Co. 1880. Quarto (H 12-3/4" W 10-1/2"). Full leather gilt and embossed covers. Spine gilt in six compartments. Partial brass clasp  (back strap lacking). Full page chromolithograph frontispieces to Old and New Testaments. Chromolithographed pages for genealogical information before NT. Two pp at the end for photographs (none present). Numerous woodcut and steel plate engraving throughout. Several engraved maps. Genealogical information pertaining to the Buck family of Manchester, NH.

Condition: 1848 New Testament is in very good condition, with wear consistent with age. Slight fraying to spine label. 1859 Bible lacks front free end sheet and may lack a frontis(?).  Leather covers are quite worn. Spine leather torn at top and bottom (but appears present). Pages toned, stained, and some edge tears.   1873 Bible is in generally fine condition (toned and dusty). 1880 Bible is generally very good condition. Litho's are bright and crisp. Covers with some light wear, especially in the "high spots", front hinge just starting (a faint crack, holding fine). Dusty.

New England Auctions does not ship or arrange shipping. 
All shipping is outsourced. All buyers and shippers must come prepared with appropriate packing materials and help for heavy items.  Our staff will not be available to help move heavy items. If payment is made by check, items will be held 7 business days before an item is released for shipping.   
Items can be picked up in person or by a shipper at 14 Business Park Drive - Unit 5, Branford, CT - BY CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please contact the gallery 24 hours in advance to make an appointment. Pickup can be scheduled for Monday through Friday between 9am - 3pm beginning the Monday after the date of the auction. Please note that all first-time buyers that wish to pick items up in person must pay with cash.

All purchases must be picked up from our location within 14 days, no exceptions. Purchased items that have been paid for but not picked up or shipped from our auction facility within 14 days of the auction will be stored at a rate of $10 per day per lot for furniture and larger items and $5 per day per lot for smaller items. A moving fee of $25 going into storage and $25 going out of storage will be added. Storage fees and late fees must be paid before items are released. There are no exceptions.

 


Items not picked up within 60 days of the auction date will be considered in default and become the property of New England Auctions.
