Rare early small cigar store Indian, attributed to Julius Melchers. (1829-1908). Rare small size .Depicts an Indian Squaw holding cigars in her right hand and a tobacco plug in her left. Carved wood retaining a fine beautiful 19th century surface. The dress is a true salmon color. A light cleaning would brighten the colors. Please refer to the last image. Here you will see the salmon color after cleaning with mild soap. To the right is the brownish color with the grime intact. This is an early example, dating from 1865-75. This is a rare opportunity to own an historic example of classic American folk art. The simple molding surrounding the base is a possible old replacement. Cracks and imperfections. H 39-1/2".
