Engraved presentation tumbler in wooden presentation box. Attributed to John Frederick Amelung. Maryland, circa 1785. Tumbler engraved with floral spray with the intials A. C 1786. Bottom engraved "Margaret Ellicombe Gidley God is Love AC March 19, 1806". A note accompanying this lot states "The writing on this tumbler was done by D. Adam Clark with his diamond pen on the occasion of a visit to glassblower with friends. D. Adam Clark was an early circuit rider Methodist founder, friend with John and Charles" B H 5-3/8" W 6-1/8", D 6". Tumbler: H 3-7/8" D rim 3-3/16" D base 2-1/4". Condition: Fine original condition.
